Mental Health

Published by sunnflr at 1:23 pm under Health Conditions Edit This

Mental health is just as important and physical health. One of the best things we can do for our mental health is learn to control stress.

Some problems caused by stress are poor immunity, pain, heart attacks and strokes, and irritability. For some people the problems build up over time. They never know they have a problem until ending up in the hospital with a heart attack. Hopefully they still have the chance to learn to manage stress and get better.

For others, their body tells them right away when stress is causing problems. I suffer from fibromyalgia, and whenever I get stressed my pain level shoots through the roof. The bad part is, the stress causes pain then the pain causes more stress and round and round I go for sometimes months at a time before leveling off again.

It’s not easy managing stress. Some things are just stressful, such as a death in the family, car accident, or health problem. We just have to do the best we can with the big things. It’s the small stresses that we can control. Don’t let the little things get to you. Who cares if the kids forget to pick up their toys one day, they’ll get them the next. Or your husband leaves his dirty socks on the floor; it’s not THAT big of a deal. Learning to let go of stress will make you feel wonderful.

Some things that help reduce stress are meditation, relaxation tapes, warm baths, and long walks. Pick the one you like best and try to reduce your stress level. You will be happier and healthier in the long run.

It sure can. Some of it can’t be avoided, but we should try not to stress the small stuff.

Very true about stress. Everyone deals with stress but not everyone knows how to control it. I control stress by writing. Great post. :)

I did a cartoon about stress and talk to Lisa Brookes Kift who is a Marriage and Family Therapist. She has written numerous articles, tips, and tools about mental health and stress, feel free to check out the cartoon at:

Writing is a good way to deal with stress. Writing your problems down helps work them out.

Yeah, sometimes listening to a certain song just makes you feel good all over. I bet the artist would love to know the reactions they get.
