Offering Comfort

Published by sunnflr at 1:02 pm under Life Edit This

It times of sadness it’s often hard to know what to do to help someone. When a family is faced with a death or terrible sickness others want to offer comfort. I believe you just have to do the best you can. It really is the thought that counts sometimes.

Telling someone you are sorry for their loss is sometimes all that’s needed. Saying things like, “I know what you’re going through,” or “They are in a better place,” while true, may not offer any comfort. The person who has just lost someone will not be in the mood to hear these things. Just knowing you are there and that you feel for them is enough.

For a family dealing with sickness, one way to offer comfort is to help with chores and errands. The ones caring for a loved one will not have time to go out and shop, cook meals, and care for other family members. Offering your services in these areas will be greatly appreciated because it will allow for more time to be spent with the person that is sick.

Ask what’s needed if you aren’t sure. Let the person know you are willing to help in any way you can, that you love and support them, and give them a shoulder to cry on. Sometimes the little things help the most.
